Darkfox's grand day out

Welcome to Darkfox's Grand Day Out, a travel diary charting our Eurasian adventure which started from Stroud, UK, on 2nd April 2006. The prime objective is to go as far as we can without flying, and to spend our money within the local economies. We are travelling until our savings run out and hope this will be about a year; So far we have made it as far east as Japan, and are now having a wonderful time in Laos before heading back through Central Asia along the silk roads.

Mission completed!

We have arrived back in France, currently ensconced in the comfort of the family home. This means we did it: we did the whole thing without using a single aircraft, all the way out to Japan and back along the Silk Roads. It can be done, and on the whole if time allows I can heartily recommend it as a great slow way to meet all sorts of interesting people, and experience the places visited 'for real' while all the while not trashing the environment too badly. Thank you so much to all who hosted us, all...

Our trip avoiding aircraft!

Welcome to Darkfox's Grand Day Out, a travel diary charting our Eurasian adventure. Using the menu at the top you can read our travelog, look at pictures taken en route and leave messages for us. Our originally planned route is illustrated here. (index.php?option=com_content&task=view&id=53&Itemid=2)The trip is underway at last - having started from Stroud on 2nd April 2006. The prime objective is to try and avoid flying (http://environment.guardian.co.uk/climatechange/story/0,,1877388,00.html) wherever possible, and to spend our money where it will stay in the local economy (http://www.greenpeace.org/international/campaigns/trade-and-the-environment) rather than with multi-nationals. We are travelling until our savings run out...
